HIPHOP & HALLOWEEN

Sorry I have been on hiatus for a while, I trust that you found other ways to occupy your time :)

It has been an interesting weekend. Because Halloween is on Monday this year the celebrations lasted all weekend as adults looking for an excuse to wear the favourite superhero costume took to the streets and nightclubs to enjoy the one night a year when its ok to be freaky, scary, sexy a character and blend anonymously into the masses.

Pop culture has always revelled in the festivities of Halloween and borrowed from it from time to time.

Micheal Jackson's Thriller is probably the best known example.

In recent years artists like Kanye West have taken to the macabre to make their videos more visually appealing.

In the music video Monster, West and fellow artist explore Hip-Hop's relation with horror.

Its not all blood and gore though, look at this Rick Ross-o-lantern.

Now this on the other hand is scary, and totally inappropriate, unless this little kid lives somewhere really warm he is going to freeze. Just imagine he knocked on your door asking for "treats." If  your little boy comes home and says he wants to dress-up like Lil Wayne you need to have a serious convo with that little boy.

Now on to more general news, apparently Amber Rose is not the only model Wiz Khalifa is working with.
Wiz has signed model and aspiring rapper Lola Monroe to his Taylor Gang label. Munroe has been on the hip hop scene for a minute while awaiting her chance to showcase her skills. In a recent interview with DJ Greg of V103 radio in Atlanta Munroe discussed her decision:
"Wiz is like a positive free individual that’s about his business and that matches everything I’ve created on my side. When he reached out, he was like, ‘I feel as though our movements represent the same thing, so I want you to rep Taylor Gang.’ And I agreed, so it’s only right."  Now that's deep... Be on the lookout for Monroe to be on a barrage of mix tapes sometime soon.

The Watch the Throne Concert tour kicked off Friday night in Atlanta,
and crowds are going HAM over the stage layout, the visual concepts and the overall performances. The show is scheduled to take over the ACC for two days in November (24,25.) Tickets sold out quickly across North America this summer as the two world class rappers released their long awaited collaborative album Watch the Throne. In what was hailed a strategic marketing move the album was available for early only to those who bought a ticket to the concerts slated for this Fall.

As the reviews still pour out over Twitter and the other Social media tools the resounding response is positive. Affirming those who dubbed this the concert of the year. Allhiphop.com's Steve Raze was among those who watched the first of two shows held at the Phillip arena in Atlanta, Raze wrote:
"Hip-Hop Royalty has spoken, and a new bar has been set. As of right now, the throne is secured."

Earlier this month a brand new website was launched. This site is unlike many of the sites you see out there in cyberland because it is an all hiphop site, that's not new you say, and your right, that's not new. But... this website is the brainchild and product of women, exclusive and only. http://www.bad-perm.com/  the ladies offer everything you need to get your HipHop culture fix and then some, make sure you stop by and show some love.

You can get you musical dose of HipHop and news every Tuesday night with the MissInformed show  9-11pm on http://www.fusionradio.ca/

Have a Happy Halloween and I promise not to go so long with out checking in again.

Best Wishes.
